New Maxim MAX22700D / MAX22701D

On August 5th 2020, Maxim Integrated officially released MAX22700D and MAX22701D for mass production – two Ultra-High CMTI Isolated Gate Drivers.

The both components are the new members of the MAX22700–MAX22702 family of single-channel isolated gate drivers with ultra-high common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 300kV/μs (typ). All devices of this family are designed to drive silicon-carbide (SiC) or gallium-nitride (GaN) transistors in various inverter or motor control applications. They have integrated digital galvanic isolation using Maxim’s proprietary process technology. The MAX22700D/MAX22701D represent product options with differential inputs and output for gate driver common pin GNDB (MAX22700D) and Miller clamp (MAX22701D). Similarly to all devices in the family, they feature isolation for a withstand voltage rating of 3kVRMS for 60 seconds.

All devices support a minimum pulse width of 20ns with a maximum pulse width distortion of 2ns, part-to-part propagation delay is 35ns, matched within 2ns (max) at room temperature,  and 5ns (max) over the whole -40°C to +125°C operating temperature range. 

The MAX22700D has a maximum RDSON of 1.25Ω, while the MAX22701 has an RDSON of 2.5Ω for the low-side driver. Maximum RDSON of 4.5Ω for the high-side driver is same for both options. 

Design engineer can find typical operating circuits of both parts driving SiC or GaN FETs in documentation.

Both devices are available in an 8-pin, narrow-body SOIC package with 4mm of creepage and clearance. The package material has a minimum comparative tracking index (CTI) of 600V, which gives it a group I rating in creepage tables. Both devices are rated for operation at ambient temperatures of -40°C to +125°C.

Customers can evaluate their gate drivers using the Evaluation Kits offered by Maxim Integrated. The Evaluation Kit includes two identical channels (devices) in order to demonstrate very tight part-to-part propagation delay matching.
