Practical electronics engineering and assembly requires the use of different kinds of electrical engineering tools ranging from the very basic and cheap tools to complex and advanced ones. For instance, an automatic test equipment (ATE) uses automated control systems to rapidly perform tests. Therefore it usually includes many instruments in simulated forms.

Ordinarily, high-level test equipment is necessary when designing circuits or when troubleshooting existing production units in the field.

Accurate measurements are key to practically all engineering application, but all too often measurements and test get little attention comparing to the design part.

When determining the required performance of the system, you should not only consider the instrument but also the application and the environment under which you will use the device.

However, it can be often complicated to determine which type of device will fulfill the requirements if you are only looking at the specs and features.

LCR meters are used to measure the inductance, capacitance, and resistance of the devices.

Signal generators can vary, depending on the form of a signal they provide. Some provide RF signals, others audio signals, different shapes of waveforms or simply pulses.
